Courses

A course groups lessons into one learner experience. Unit dividers let you organize related lessons into sections, while course-level settings, themes, languages, sharing, and analytics apply across the course.

Creating a course

  1. From the dashboard, select Create.

  2. Choose Course.

  3. Start with a prompt for the Mindsmith Agent or create the course content from the editor.

Course authoring is designed for desktop. On a small mobile screen, Mindsmith opens content in a view-only experience.

Building the outline

Use the controls at the bottom of the course editor:

  • New Lesson adds a blank lesson.

  • New Unit adds a named divider for grouping lessons.

You can select either control to add at the end, or drag it into a specific position. Drag existing lessons and units to reorder the outline.

Free workspaces can add up to five lessons to a course. Paid workspaces can add more, up to the 100-lesson course limit. Unit dividers do not count as lessons.

Select a lesson in the outline to edit it. Lesson menus also let you duplicate or remove individual lessons from the course.

Course title and lesson thumbnails

Select the course title in the top toolbar to rename the course.

Each lesson row can have a thumbnail. Select its thumbnail controls to upload an image, generate a replacement, or remove the current thumbnail. Thumbnails help learners distinguish lessons in both list and grid course displays.

Theme and branding

Open Theme to set the course’s colors, fonts, buttons, page appearance, and header treatment. The course theme is used across its lessons. Header-image options in the theme can provide the course cover treatment.

Paid workspaces can also add a course logo from the More options menu.

Settings

Open Settings to control:

  • Preview language and description

  • Navigation freedom and the learner sidebar

  • List or grid course display

  • SCORM exit behavior

  • Narration autoplay, restart, and the completion dialog

  • Passing score, question retries, completion rules, and reporting

  • Learner name and email collection

  • Certificates

Course completion and scoring limitations

A learner completes a course after completing every lesson in its outline. There is no course-level setting that makes selected lessons optional or allows completion after only part of the outline.

Course completion and passing are separate. The course’s Passing Percentage is evaluated from the score-contributing questions across its lessons, with each question contributing equally to the course score. Courses do not offer the lesson-level Scored Content control for selecting one section or weighting entire lessons differently. A learner can therefore finish every lesson and complete the course without meeting its passing percentage.

Languages

Use the language control in the toolbar to switch or manage course language versions. The More options menu also includes Translate.

If a lesson is missing a language supported by the course, Mindsmith can prompt you to generate the missing translation so learners have a consistent course experience.

Other course actions

The top toolbar provides:

  • Preview to experience the course as a learner

  • Share to publish a link, invite collaborators, embed, or export

  • Analytics on paid plans

  • Comments for course-level collaboration

  • More options for Translate, Logo, Move Course, Duplicate Course, and Move to Trash

Moving a course transfers the course and its lessons to the selected project or organization. Duplicating creates a separate copy you can modify independently.
