Introduction to Courses

Courses in Mindsmith allow you to group multiple lessons together into a single, cohesive learning experience. Whether you are building an onboarding program, a corporate compliance module, or a multi-part educational curriculum, courses help you organize content logically.

Please note that course authoring is only available on desktop. If you access Mindsmith on a mobile device, you will be automatically redirected to the view-only preview mode.

Creating and Editing Your Course

When you create a new course, you can easily customize its basic details to set the stage for your learners.

Changing the Course Title

  1. Locate the course title in the top-left corner of the top toolbar.

  2. Click directly on the title text to open the editing menu.

  3. Type your new course name and press Enter or click outside the box to save your changes.

Adding Course Logos

If you are on a paid plan, you can brand your course with a custom logo.

  1. Click the Ellipsis (three dots) menu in the top right toolbar.

  2. Select Logo from the dropdown list.

  3. Upload your image and adjust the style to fit your branding guidelines.

Building the Course Outline

You can structure your course by adding a mix of lessons and unit dividers.

Adding Lessons and Units

Use the floating toolbar located at the bottom of your screen to build out your course structure.

  • New Lesson: Click the + New Lesson button to add a blank lesson to your course. You can also click and drag the button directly into your preferred spot in the course outline.

  • New Unit: Click the + New Unit button to add a section divider. Units help you group related lessons together under a single heading.

Tip: Free accounts can add up to 5 lessons per course. To add more, you will need to upgrade to a paid plan. All courses have a maximum limit of 100 lessons to ensure optimal performance.

Customizing Lesson Thumbnails

You can customize the preview image for each lesson in your course outline.

  1. Click on the thumbnail image next to a lesson in your course view.

  2. To use your own image, click Upload Thumbnail and select a file from your computer.

  3. To let Mindsmith generate an image based on the lesson's content, click Regenerate Thumbnail.

  4. If you want to clear an uploaded image, hover over it and click Remove.

Managing Course Settings

The top right toolbar contains everything you need to manage, share, and track your course.

Course Tools and Actions

  • Settings: Click the Gear icon to open the course settings. Here you can adjust learner permissions, navigation rules, and visual preferences.

  • Theme: Click the Paintbrush icon in the bottom toolbar to open the theme editor. This applies uniform colors and fonts across all lessons in your course.

  • Analytics: Click the Chart bar icon to view learner engagement and completion data for the course.

  • Comments: Click the Chat bubble icon to open the course-level comment thread and collaborate with other authors.

The More Options Menu

Click the Ellipsis (three dots) icon in the top right toolbar to access additional management tools:

  • Translate: Automatically translate your entire course into supported languages.

  • Move Course: Transfer the course to a different project or organization workspace.

  • Duplicate Course: Create an exact copy of the course and all its lessons.

  • Return to Generator: If you used AI to build the course, this takes you back to the outline generator to make broad structural changes.

  • Move to Trash: Delete the course. This will remove it from your dashboard.

Translating Lessons

You can view and manage course languages using the Globe icon in the top left toolbar. If a specific lesson is missing translations that are supported by the overall course, Mindsmith will prompt you. Simply click Generate Missing Translations to automatically update the lesson to match the course languages.

Previewing and Sharing

Before sending your course to learners, you can see exactly how it will look.

  1. Click the Play icon in the top right toolbar to enter Preview Mode.

  2. Navigate through the units and lessons exactly as a learner would experience them.

  3. When you are ready to distribute your content, click the Share button in the top right toolbar to generate a link, invite users, or export your course.
