Lesson and course settings
Settings control how content is introduced, how learners navigate it, how completion is calculated and reported, and whether a certificate is available.
Open a lesson or course and select Settings in the top toolbar. Standard content has four sections: Preview, Learning, Grading, and Certificate. Standalone Conversation and Video content uses a smaller set of relevant options.
Authors and organization Admins can also set defaults for newly created content under Settings and Members → Default Content Settings. Changing a default does not rewrite content that already exists.
Preview
The Preview section controls the information shown before a learner begins:
Language: set the primary language and open translation or language-version management.
Description: add a short summary of the lesson or course.
Thumbnail: upload or remove the thumbnail for a lesson.
Show Powered by Mindsmith: Free content includes Mindsmith branding; removing it requires a paid plan.
Learning
Navigation
Navigation Freedom: Restricted keeps learners moving in order; Open lets them jump to other pages or lessons.
Smart Navigation Buttons: use the current sidebar-and-controls experience. Turning it off exposes the legacy mobile navigation choice.
Mobile Navigation Mode: when legacy learner navigation is in use, choose horizontal or vertical movement on mobile.
Sidebar Starts Open: open the learner navigation sidebar when the content begins.
Course Display Mode: for courses, show lessons as a list or grid.
Exit Button in SCORM: show an exit control when the lesson or course runs in an LMS.
Restricted navigation works with the content’s completion requirements. For example, a required video can block forward navigation until it is watched, and Require Interactives can require the learner to use the interactive content on a page.
Playback and completion UI
Narration Autoplay: start narration when a learner enters a narrated page. Browsers may require the learner’s first interaction before audio can begin.
Restart Lesson/Course Button: let learners clear their progress and begin again.
Completion Dialog: show or hide the completion summary at the end.
Grading
Scoring
Passing Percentage: choose the minimum score required to pass, or choose no required percentage.
Question Retries: allow zero to four retries, or unlimited retries.
Scored Content: for lessons, score all graded content or only a selected section.
Completion Criteria: require the assessment alone, or require both the assessment and content viewing.
Require Interactives: require learners to complete interactive content rather than pass over it.
Individual question and Conversation tiles also have their own grading controls. Those determine whether and how the tile contributes to the lesson’s broader settings.
Reporting and learner identity
Reporting Mode: report Passed/Incomplete or Completed/Incomplete to an LMS.
Collect Names from Learners: request a learner name before the content starts.
Collect Email from Learners: request a learner email before the content starts.
Enhanced SCORM Integration: use learner information supplied by a compatible LMS instead of asking the learner to enter it.
Identity collection only affects future launches. It does not add names or emails to earlier anonymous analytics records.
Certificate
Paid workspaces can turn Include Certificate on, choose the default or an uploaded external certificate design, and include certificate verification. Certificate eligibility follows the completion and passing rules in the Grading section.

Settings for required videos
The Video must be completed option belongs to each Video tile, not the lesson settings. When it is on, the learner must finish that video before the tile is complete. You can also prevent skipping ahead in the video.
For a sequential video lesson, combine required video playback with Restricted navigation and the completion criteria that matches how much content the learner must view.
