Creating a consistent, professional look for your learning content is essential for strong brand recognition. Mindsmith’s theme editor allows you to customize every visual aspect of your courses and lessons, from typography and colors to background images and logos.
Accessing the Theme Editor
To customize your branding, open the learning content you want to edit. Click the Theme button in the top toolbar to open the draggable theme menu.
Any unsaved changes you make will put your theme into "Draft" mode, indicated by an asterisk (*). This allows you to experiment with different looks before finalizing them.
Selecting and Managing Themes
Mindsmith comes with a variety of built-in presets, but you can also save and reuse your own custom themes.
Switching Themes
Click the theme dropdown menu at the top of the Theme panel.
Scroll to the Presets section to choose from carefully designed default themes.
Scroll to the Custom section to apply a theme you have previously saved.
Saving and Managing Custom Themes
Save New: Once you have customized your visual settings, click Save New at the bottom of the panel to store it as a new custom theme.
Save: If you are editing an existing custom theme, click Save to overwrite it with your recent changes.
Rename or Delete: Open the theme dropdown menu and locate your custom theme. Click the three-dot menu icon next to it to rename or delete the theme. (Note: Built-in presets cannot be deleted).
Adding Logos and AI Theme Generation
You can upload your organization's logo to brand your learning content. Adding a logo requires a Professional or Business+ plan.
Click the Logo button in the Theme panel.
Upload your logo file.
Once your logo is uploaded, click the Generate button.
Using the Generate feature, Mindsmith's AI will automatically analyze your logo and build a custom theme around it. The AI will select complementary accent colors, background shades, and suitable fonts that match your brand identity.
Customizing Theme Elements
You have full control over the individual elements that make up your learning content's visual design.
Backgrounds and Overlays
Under the Page Background section, you can select a solid background color using the color picker. Alternatively, you can upload a custom background image.
If you upload a background image, two new options will appear:
Overlay Titles: Adds a color tint behind your header text to make it readable against busy images.
Overlay Content: Adds a color tint behind your main body content.
Fonts and Typography
You can set distinct typography rules for your Header and Paragraph text.
Font Family: Choose from dozens of built-in Google Fonts.
Custom Fonts: To upload your own brand fonts, click the font dropdown, scroll to the bottom, and select Custom Font. You can upload
.woff2(recommended),.woff,.ttf, or.otffiles.Weight and Color: Adjust the thickness (Thin to Extra-bold) and select specific hex colors for your text.
Tip: If you are unsure about text colors, use the Auto Color toggle. Mindsmith will automatically generate accessible text shades based on your chosen background color. If you manually select colors and the contrast ratio drops below accessibility standards (4.5), a warning message will appear to help you correct it.
Accent Colors
Accent colors dictate the color of buttons, highlights, and interactive elements. Use the color picker under the Accent section to set your primary brand color.
If your brand has a secondary color, click the + (plus) icon next to the primary accent to add a Secondary Accent Color.
Course Header Styling
When you are editing a Course (rather than an individual lesson), you will see an additional Header Style section in the Theme panel. This controls the appearance of the course overview page.
Style: Choose Blend for a seamless look, or High Contrast to make the header stand out from the rest of the page.
Header Image: Click the image icon to upload a file, search for a stock photo, or use AI to generate a specific header image for your course.
Organization-Level Branding
As an organization admin or manager, you can establish global branding rules for your entire team. Navigate to your organization settings to upload a team-wide logo. You can also select one of your custom themes and set it as the Default Theme. Any new content created by your team will automatically start with these branding settings applied.
