Version History tracks the changes made to your lessons over time. It acts as a safety net, allowing you to save important milestones, preview past edits, and restore earlier versions if you change your mind.
Whether you are collaborating with a team or experimenting with new lesson layouts, Version History ensures your work is never permanently lost.
Accessing Version History
You can view your lesson's history at any time from the lesson editor.
Open your lesson in the editor.
Click the History button (clock icon) located in the top toolbar.
This opens the Version History panel, which displays your current working version and a list of all previously saved versions.
Saving a New Version
While Mindsmith automatically saves your progress as you work, manually creating versions is highly recommended before making major changes.
Click the History button in the top toolbar.
Look at the top of the panel under "Current Version".
Click the Create new version button.
Type a clear name for your version (for example, "Draft 1" or "Added final assessment tiles").
Click Create.
Note: If you haven't made any edits since your last save, Mindsmith will notify you that no changes have been made, and the option to create a new version will be hidden.
Previewing Past Versions
You can view an older version of your lesson to see what it looked like without affecting your current work.
Open the History panel.
Scroll down to the "Saved Versions" section.
Find the version you want to look at.
Click the Preview button (play icon) next to that version.
Your lesson will open in preview mode, displaying the exact content, text tiles, and settings as they existed when that snapshot was taken.
Restoring a Previous Version
If you need to undo recent edits, you can easily revert your entire lesson to a previous state. This will restore all lesson content, language settings, and translations to exactly how they were in the selected version.
Open the History panel.
Locate the version you want to revert to under "Saved Versions".
Click the three-dot menu (...) next to that version.
Select Restore.
Pro Tip: Do not worry about losing your current work! Whenever you restore an older version, Mindsmith automatically creates a safety snapshot of your current lesson right before the reversion happens.
Removing a Version
To keep your history clean, you can delete old versions that you no longer need.
Open the History panel.
Find the version you wish to delete.
Click the three-dot menu (...) next to that version.
Select Remove.
Types of Automatic Versions
In addition to the manual versions you create, you will also see automatic versions appear in your history list. Mindsmith generates these automatically to keep your content safe during major actions.
Auto / Assistant / Storyboard: Created automatically when you use AI tools to generate new outlines or bulk lesson content.
Published: Created whenever you publish your lesson.
Restore: Created immediately before you restore an older version, ensuring your most recent edits are safely backed up.
Note: By default, the panel shows your 5 most recent versions. If you have a long history, simply click View all versions at the bottom of the list to see older snapshots.
