Version history
Version history lets you name important lesson and course states, preview older versions, and restore after an unwanted change. It is separate from the editor’s continuous saving.
Every lesson has its own Lesson History, so you can restore one lesson without touching the rest of its course. Courses also have Course History, which restores the whole course, including every lesson in it, to a saved course version. See Course version history below.
Open history
Open a lesson and select the History clock in the editor toolbar. The panel shows:
Current Version
Named Versions, including manually named and event-based versions
Automatic versions
The five most recent Automatic versions appear first. Select View all versions to expand the list.
Create or name a version
When the current lesson differs from the latest version:
Select History.
Select Create New Version.
Enter a useful name.
Select Create.
If nothing has changed since the latest version, Mindsmith does not create a duplicate snapshot. The lesson’s More options menu can instead open Name Current Version, which names or renames the current saved state.
Create named versions before a substantial rewrite, translation update, or other milestone you may want to revisit.
Preview a version
Select Preview beside a version to open that exact lesson state without changing the current lesson. Version previews include the content and settings stored with that snapshot.
Restore a version
Open the menu beside the version.
Select Restore.
Confirm the restore.
Mindsmith first saves the current lesson as a "Before restore" safety version, then replaces the working lesson with the selected state. You can therefore return to the pre-restore state if needed.
Remove a version
Open the menu beside a version and select Remove. Removing a historical version does not delete the lesson itself.
Why versions appear automatically
Mindsmith saves versions around important actions such as publishing, restoring, using the Mindsmith Agent, and moving from a storyboard into a generated lesson. Routine automatic snapshots appear under Automatic; other event-based snapshots appear under Named Versions with their type and attribution.
Course version history
A course version saves the course outline and settings together with a version of every lesson in the course.
Open Course History
Open a course and select the History clock in the course editor toolbar. When you're editing a lesson inside a course, open History and select Course History in the panel header to switch to the course's versions; select Lesson History to switch back.
Course History works like Lesson History: create or name a version with Create New Version, select Preview to view a saved version, and remove versions you no longer need.
Restore a course version
Open Course History.
Open the menu beside the version and select Restore.
Confirm the restore.
Mindsmith first saves the current course as a "Before restore" version under Automatic, then restores the outline, settings, and every lesson to the state saved in that version. Lessons added to the course since that version are moved to Trash, not deleted.
Lessons you moved out of the course since that version come back too. Moving a lesson out of a course moves a copy, so the copy stays where you moved it.
Some lessons are left as they are, and Mindsmith lists them after the restore: lessons that were permanently deleted since the version was saved, or whose saved lesson version has been removed.
To undo a course restore, restore the "Before restore" version.
