Importing SCORM Packages

Importing SCORM packages from Articulate Rise, EasyGenerator, and Inkling into Mindsmith as native lessons and courses, supported authoring tools, the import conversion process, reimporting, and the import feedback widget

Written by Patrick Elzinga

Importing an existing SCORM package converts it into native, editable Mindsmith courses and lessons. You can then update the imported training material in Mindsmith.

Supported Authoring Tools

Mindsmith currently supports importing SCORM .zip packages exported from the following platforms:

  • Articulate Rise

  • EasyGenerator

  • Evolve

  • Inkling

Articulate Storyline packages uploaded from the dashboard are imported with the Mindsmith Agent when the deterministic Storyline importer is not enabled. This fallback requires AI credits. Integrated placements cannot use the Agent fallback, so Storyline import must be enabled there; otherwise, the import explains how to request access.

If you attempt to upload a SCORM package from an unsupported platform, the system will cancel the upload and display an "Unsupported authoring tool" error.

How to Import a SCORM Package

  1. From your dashboard or project, click the Create button in the top-right corner.

  2. In the dropdown menu, select Import ("Documents or SCORM packages").

  3. In the import window, add your SCORM .zip file: drag it into the upload area, or click to browse and select it from your computer.

  4. Wait for the upload and processing to finish.

Once processing is complete, Mindsmith will automatically redirect you to your newly created lesson or course.

How the Conversion Works

Mindsmith rebuilds the content as native Mindsmith tiles instead of embedding the SCORM file.

During import, Mindsmith extracts the text, layouts, and media into text, image, and video tiles. You can edit the text, replace images, or ask the Mindsmith Agent to rewrite a section.

Mindsmith also saves embedded media from the original SCORM file to your workspace. If an Articulate Rise or EasyGenerator package contains multiple languages, Mindsmith detects them and creates translated versions of the course alongside the primary language.

Providing Feedback and Reimporting

Because third-party authoring tools export SCORM files in highly variable ways, your imported content may occasionally require minor formatting adjustments.

To help improve this process, imported lessons and courses have an Import Feedback option. Open the imported lesson or course, click the More options (⋯) menu, and select Import Feedback. (This option only appears on content that was imported.)

From there you can:

  • Rate the Import: Click Like (thumbs up) or Dislike (thumbs down) to tell us how the conversion performed.

  • Leave Comments: After choosing Dislike, a text box appears where you can describe what went wrong with the import.

  • View the Original: Click View original SCORM file to download the source .zip you uploaded: useful for double-checking what was in the original package.

  • Reimport Course: Click Reimport Course to delete the current course and its lessons and reimport from the original package with the latest import fixes.
