Editable Video

Mindsmith’s Editable Video feature lets you create professional, AI-generated training videos directly within your lesson. You can generate custom avatars, write scripts, and design scenes without needing external video editing software.

This tool is perfect for creating engaging roleplays, welcome messages, and scenario-based training.

Adding an Editable Video Tile

You can let the AI generate a complete video for you, or you can build one from scratch.

  1. Hover over the lesson canvas and click the Plus (+) button to open the generation menu.

  2. Select Video to open the Editable Video generation dialog.

  3. Type your instructions and select a desired video length (Short, Medium, or Long).

  4. Click Generate Video to let the AI build your scenes, or click Blank Video to start from a completely empty timeline.

Navigating the Video Editor

When you click the Edit button on an Editable Video tile, you will enter the fullscreen video editor. The interface is divided into a few key areas:

  • The Canvas (Center): This is the visual preview of your current scene.

  • The Toolbar (Above Canvas): Use these buttons to add new visual tiles and change scene settings.

  • The Sidebar (Right): This is your timeline where you manage your scenes, write transcripts, and change characters.

  • The Agent (Bottom): Use the AI chat panel to make quick adjustments to your video using text commands.

Managing Scenes and Transcripts

A video is made up of individual scenes, which act like slides in a presentation. You manage these in the right sidebar.

  • Add a Scene: Click the Add Scene button at the bottom of the right sidebar. You can choose from pre-made layout templates like "Speaker + Text" or "Video".

  • Reorder Scenes: Click and drag the scene cards in the sidebar to change their order.

  • Duplicate or Delete: Hover over a scene's thumbnail in the sidebar, click the More Options (...) icon, and select your desired action.

To give your character a script, type directly into the text box below the scene thumbnail in the sidebar. This text is what the AI avatar will speak out loud. To ensure the video renders smoothly, keep your transcript under 600 characters per scene.

Choosing Characters and Voices

You can easily swap out the speaker and change their voice to fit your training scenario.

  1. In the right sidebar, click the Avatar circle next to the transcript text box.

  2. Click the Character tab to choose a new AI avatar from the available list. You can click the Play icon on a character to see a preview of how they look and move.

  3. Click the Voice tab to select a different text-to-speech voice for the current character.

Tip: When you change a character or a voice, Mindsmith will ask if you want to apply this change to all scenes. This is a great way to keep your speaker consistent across the entire video.

Designing the Scene Canvas

You can customize the visual layout of each scene using the toolbar directly above the main canvas. Each scene can hold up to three visual tiles.

  1. Click Image, Speaker, Text, or Video in the top toolbar to add a new tile to your scene canvas.

  2. Click and drag the tiles on the canvas to rearrange them side-by-side.

  3. Click on a specific tile on the canvas (such as a text tile) to reveal formatting options for that specific element.

  4. If you add a Video tile, you can click on it to upload your own short clip or search our integration for free stock videos.

Changing Backgrounds and Animations

You can add visual flair to your scenes by modifying the background colors and adding motion.

  1. Click the Options button in the toolbar above the canvas.

  2. Click the Background color picker to select a new base color for your scene. The system will automatically adjust your text color to ensure it remains readable.

  3. You can also upload a Background Image to sit behind your tiles. Once uploaded, use the slider to adjust the image's opacity.

  4. Use the Animation Type dropdown to add motion to your scene. You can choose effects like Zoom In or Slide Right, and use the slider to control the distance of the animation.

Previewing Your Video

Before finalizing your video, you should preview your scenes to check the audio pacing and visual layout.

Below the main canvas, click the Preview button or click the Play icon on the timeline. This will quickly generate the AI voice audio for your script and play through the current scene. You can also click and drag the playhead on the timeline to scrub through the audio.

Rendering the Final Video

When your scenes are fully designed and your script is ready, you must render the video so learners can watch it. Rendering a video requires organization credits, which are available on Professional and Business+ plans.

  1. Click the Render button in the top right corner of the editor.

  2. A confirmation dialog will appear, showing you the estimated credit cost based on the length of your script.

  3. Click Start Rendering to begin the process.

Rendering typically takes around 10 minutes to complete. The video processes in the background, so you are free to click Back to Lesson and continue working on other tiles while you wait.

Video Playback Settings

Once your video is completely rendered, learners will be able to play it within the lesson. You can control how they interact with the video player.

Click directly on the rendered Editable Video tile in your standard lesson editor to open its settings menu. Here, you can toggle Video must be completed to ensure learners watch the entire clip. You can also disable Learners can skip ahead to prevent them from fast-forwarding through the training.
